My Story

It all started with a Strawberry Tomato soap I purchased on a trip to the beach while visiting friends in Portland OR. That soap was the perfect combination of fruity sweetness and the rich earthiness of soil. A year later I found another inspiration in a candle from a vintage market in Maine. The scent was addictive and I wanted it everywhere in my home. At over $25 a jar plus shipping this didn’t seem like a financially responsible habit.

On my way home I took action and ordered the supplies to make my own candles. I found the methodical melting, pouring and labeling so satisfying and I could add a variety of custom fragrances to my home much more affordably. The combinations I make are inspired by our garden, recipes, memories and suggestions from friends and family.

After 2 years of giving my candles away as gifts Craig (my man friend) convinced me to post them for sale on Instagram in the middle of our quarantine. I sold out in 24 hours! Another 6 months later and my hobby needed a name and a little more polish.

Red’s Apothecary

It’s from my heart

It’s from my kitchen

It’s all about the scent.

No dyes.

No labels.

No confusing names (who actually knows what a Midsummer’s Night Dream smells like?)

All my candles are made with all-natural soy wax that is specifically made to hold a high amount of fragrance and emit the strongest scent when burned. I pour as carefully as I can but my highest priority is the strength of a scent in your home when burning. Forgive me for an occasional drip or uneven surface. I hope the creative natural scents that burn well make it worth their handmade appearance.

The white wax and simple mason jars are selected to blend with anyone’s style and to keep the focus on the scent.

I enjoy using different scents each day. The size of the jars I use are on purpose. With about 50 -70 hours of burn time you can use a couple different scents during a season and not end up with a giant jar that is half full that you need to save for 9 months.
